Turtles of Mon Repos

Turtles of Mon Repos

Mon Repos, on the coast of Bundaberg, supports the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland and has the most significant loggerhead turtle nesting population in the South Pacific region.

Experience firsthand the amazing sight of turtles nesting and tiny hatchlings emerging from their sandy nests to scurry down the beach towards the sea during a ranger guided tour along the beach. Other highlights on this remarkable tour include visits to the Bundaberg Distilling Company Bondstore, Hinkler Hall of Aviation including Hinkler House, Fairymead House and Sugar Museum, Schmeiders Cooperage Complex and much more.

Day 2

Fairymead House and Sugar Museum – Mon Repos Visitor Centre
The Hinkler Hall of Aviation, situated in the Botanic Gardens, celebrates pioneer solo aviator Bert Hinkler. Purchase your own morning tea before enjoying a steam engine hauled ride
around the Botanic Gardens. Visit Fairymead House and Sugar Museum before continuing on to the Bundaberg Barrel where you will discover the secrets of Bundaberg Ginger Beer. After
an early dinner at our hotel, transfer to the Mon Repos Visitor Centre for a ranger guided tour with opportunity for a special turtle encounter. Sightings cannot always be guaranteed -
remember, you are viewing wild animals in their natural environment. Please note that tidal variance may mean you are walking in soft sand and in the dunes, so a reasonable amount of fitness and suitable footwear and clothing will be necessary.

Schmeider’s Cooperage and Bundy Belle Cruise
This morning enjoy a town tour of Bundaberg which will highlight why locals regard their region so highly. Visit Schmeider’s Cooperage where you’ll see the age old craft of barrel making. Next we will take a luncheon cruise, hearing the history of the Burnett River and the Rum Distillery. This afternoon visit the Bundaberg Distilling Company, home of Bundaberg Rum.
