Hobart – Strahan
Depart Hobart and travel northwest through New Norfolk to Derwent Bridge, where we will stop for lunch and a visit to the World in the Wilderness. Continue on to Nelson Falls before our journey takes us through Queenstown to Strahan.

Take the coast road to Zeehan and Rosebery, both important mining towns of the West Coast. The coach will pass through the Blue Gum hardwood plantations before arriving at the top of the island. Visit the Edge of the World, where the next landfall is South America. Our Arthur River cruise meanders through some of the most rugged and pristine country in Northwest Tasmania. You will have a guided walk by a passionate local along the edge of the river, learning about the flora and fauna of this wilderness which has been growing relatively undisturbed for over 650 years, whilst your BBQ lunch is prepared.

B, L, D

Day 8

Smithton – Cradle Mountain
Passing through plantations of Blue Gum, part of a successful renewable industry harvesting every 15 years for paper production. Arriving into Cradle Mountain NP, be inspired by the
spectacular mountain scenery of jagged peaks and hear about pioneer Gustav Weindorfer, who lobbied to have the area set aside as a National Park. Walk part or all of the Dove Lake.

Cradle Mountain – Wynyard
Savour a leisurely start to the day with a visit to the Wilderness Gallery or the boardwalk to the platypus platform. Take some free time in Sheffield, where murals depict the local history,
flora and fauna of the district. The tour will continue north to the coast and the quaint village of Penguin, with an afternoon stop at the Burnie Makers’ Workshop for cheese tasting. Wynyard – Freycinet via Deloraine
Passing through Devonport, home of the Spirit of Tasmania, continue on to La Trobe and see the incredible topiary in Railton. At Deloraine, visit the Yarns community art project. Travel through Swansea to the Spiky Bridge, with time for a stop at Buckland Church, with its old stained glass window (dating back to the 14th Century). Our journey takes us south to the Tasman Peninsula and the convict settlement of Port Arthur. On a guided tour of the penal site, including a boat cruise around the Isle of the Dead, learn how the convicts lived, worked and died under the threat of the lash, and of the experimental solitary confinement system that often drove them to madness.

B, D

Day 13

Hobart – Richmond – Puddleduck Winery – Home
Tour historic Richmond with some time to explore the shops and consider its history, with a great opportunity to purchase some of the turned timber that Tasmania is well known for.
