Day 1

Home – Mundubbera
Today we start our memorable outback adventure, travelling northwest via Kilcoy and on to Kingaroy for lunch. This afternoon, journey on to Gayndah, well known for its citrus orchards,
before continuing on to Mundubbera for our overnight stop.

Day 2

Mundubbera – Emerald
It’s hard not to be in awe at the forever changing landscape. Travel along the Burnett Highway to Biloela before joining the Capricorn Highway just north of Dululu stopping for a picnic lunch along the way. Arriving in Blackwater, a local guide will board our coach for a town tour before visiting the International Coal Centre and Japanese Gardens. The centre offers the public a unique view into the operations, past and present of Australia’s coal mining industry. Continue on to Emerald for our overnight stay.

Day 3

Emerald – Barcaldine
Experience the marvels of Rubyvale as we visit the Miners Heritage, Australia's largest walk, in an underground Sapphire Mine Tour. Take a guided tour of the mine, by guides who are
underground miners, so their knowledge is first hand. Travel further west, stopping for lunch in Alpha before continuing on to Barcaldine. Visit the Australian Workers Heritage Centre, built as a monument for all working men and women to honour and celebrate their achievements.

Day 4

Barcaldine – Longreach
After breakfast, our journey takes us to the remote town of Muttaburra. Visit Dr Arratta's Medical Museum and view the display in Cassimatis Store, highlighting the contribution made by the Greek families of the area. This town is also the home of the Muttaburrasaurus. Enjoy lunch at The Exchange Hotel before travelling on to Ilfracombe, a town full of history and displays showing the challenges that the early pioneers overcame in adapting to the harsh and fickle climate. Visit The Ilfracombe Historical Society’s wonderful display of machinery in the museum precinct and view the film ‘A Rush for Grass’ at the Wellshot Centre. Late afternoon arrive in Longreach, where we will settle in for the next two nights.

Dasy 5

School of Distance Education, Hall of Fame and Sunset Dinner Cruise
This morning see the distinctive Water Towers, the Centenary mural, the Tropic of Capricorn marker and the Arid Zone Research Institute. Take a guided tour of the School of Distance Education to see the modern communications used to educate young people in the outback. We also visit the Stockman’s Hall of Fame where you can purchase your own lunch while viewing the displays. This afternoon, return to our accommodation to freshen up for our evening out. At sunset, cruise on the Thomson River, a 10km natural waterway called the ‘Long Reach’, to enjoy a genuine camp oven dinner with songs and yarns in a delightful setting.

Day 6

Longreach – Winton
This morning we visit the QANTAS Museum before travelling the Matilda Highway towards Winton on the edge of the channel country. Gracing the main street are reminders of Winton's history such as the Pelican Waterhole, Dinosaur feet and Waltzing Matilda memorabilia. Visit the Waltzing Matilda Centre, which reopened in April 2018 and is the only centre of its kind dedicated to a song. Purchase your own lunch while you are here. This afternoon, settle in for the next two nights before enjoying an evening out at the Royal Theatre picture show under the stars.

Day 7

Winton – The Jump Up & Lark Quarry
Travel out to The Jump Up—home of The Australian Age of Dinosaurs. Take a guided tour through the museum and laboratory to view dinosaur fossil collections and the exciting new 3D digital theatre with animations of Australian dinosaurs. After morning tea, set out (weather and road conditions permitting) for a visit to Lark Quarry for an informative guided tour after a picnic lunch.

Day 8

Winton – Mount Isa
After breakfast, visit the Musical Fence, an array of the most unusual instruments that you could try your hand at, with the most popular being the 'drums'. We then head up the Landsborough Highway and enjoy a light lunch at the Walkabout Creek Hotel in McKinlay where part of the movie Crocodile Dundee was made. Continue on via Cloncurry before arriving in Mount Isa for the next two nights.

Day 9

Mount Isa Day
Mount Isa came into existence because of the vast mineral deposits found in the area. Today we’ll spend the day exploring this iconic town. The highlight is a comprehensive tour of the 'Outback at Isa' complex which also houses the Riversleigh Fossil Display and Isa Experience Gallery. Featuring 1.2km of tunnels, huge mining machinery in action, hands on drilling, the miner’s ‘crib room’ and even the end of shift blast. Purchase your own lunch before enjoying some free time for some last minute souvenir shopping.

Day 10

Mount Isa – Brisbane
After breakfast we visit the Mount Isa Underground Hospital before our flight home. On arrival, your transfers will be arranged.
