Day 1

Brisbane – Tenterfield
It’s all aboard as we journey into New South Wales to view the historic Lismore Railway Station. This elegant 19th century station, with its locomotive and carriage sheds is listed in the register of the National Estate. After lunch, travel on to Casino’s Railway Museum where a ride on the miniature steam train is sure to be a highlight. (Please note: it is a requirement that all passengers wear closed in footwear while riding the miniature steam train). Stay overnight in Tenterfield.

Day 2

Tenterfield – Armidale
Visit the Tenterfield Railway Station Museum and inspect the prize winning platform gardens, model railway display and large collection of heritage rolling stock. Enjoy lunch in Glen Innes before travelling through to Ben Lomond, now disused, but one of the highest altitude stations in Australia. This afternoon, visit Armidale Railway Museum before checking in for our overnight stay.

Day 3

Armidale – Muswellbrook
Travel by train from Armidale to Werris Creek on the daily regional train service. Disembark at the heritage listed railway station which is also home to the Australian Railway Monument and Rail Journeys Museum. Enjoy a guided tour before stopping for lunch at a local club. Journey by coach to Muswellbrook for our overnight stay.

Day 4

Muswellbrook – Darling Harbour
This morning travel through the beautiful Hunter Valley from Muswellbrook to Maitland. A short coach drive will bring us to Richmond Vale’s Rail Heritage Museum for a guided tour by one of their volunteers. Next we board a city train and journey through to Central Station, crossing the Harbour Bridge into the heart of Sydney.

Day 5

Darling Harbour – Blackheath
This morning we visit the historic town of Thirlmere in Sydney’s southwest. Purchase your own lunch today as we join in all the fun at the Annual Festival of Steam. It’s a community celebration of steam and nostalgia where locomotives of all kinds travel from afar. Spend today exploring Trainworks including the Historic Station Precinct, Exhibition Building, Worker’s
Walk, Great Train Hall and Roundhouse. This afternoon, journey into the Blue Mountains for the next two nights.

Day 6

Scenic Railway, State Mine Heritage Park and Railway
Today we’ll visit the Three Sisters, Katoomba Falls and the Jamison Valley. Travel on the Scenic Railway which was originally built to bring coal and kerosene shale from mines in the valley
up to the main railway and is now part of Scenic World. Travel on to Lithgow enjoying a picnic lunch along the way. Visit the State Mine Heritage Park and Railway where we will discover how the railway played a central role in this area.

Day 7

Blackheath – Sydney – Brisbane
This morning we visit the Valley Heights Locomotive Depot and Heritage Museum. Throughout the steam era, Valley Heights was the staging point for banking engines on the steeply graded Western Line to Katoomba. Enjoy an informative guided tour through the museum with an opportunity to board the locomotive cabs and to view the carriages. To complete this tour of train journeys, museums and connections, enjoy lunch in the 103 year old Round House. Travel to Sydney Airport for your flight back to Brisbane.
