Day 4

Leigh Creek – Innamincka
Another adventurous day as we head along the Strzelecki Track, which runs from Lyndhurst to Innamincka. The Strzelecki Track was originally created by the cattle thief, Harry Redford, when he drove 1,000 head of stolen cattle from Queensland to Blanchewater Station. Today the area is largely occupied by the Santos Gas and Oil fields. Continue on to the tiny settlement of Innamincka, on the banks of Cooper Creek, where we will settle in for the next two nights.

Day 5

Burke & Wills
Following breakfast, we will spend the day exploring around the Queensland and South Australian border—this is truly Burke and Wills country. Conditions being favourable, visit Nappa Merrie Station where the most famous coolabah tree in Australia is located, the Burke and Wills ‘Dig Tree’. This afternoon take time to visit Burke's Memorial and Kings Tree where John King, the sole survivor of the Burke and Wills expedition, was found in an Aboriginal shelter.

Day 6

Innamincka – Tibooburra
Our journey today takes us past the Moomba Gas Fields before arriving in Cameron Corner. See the marker where three states meet before enjoying lunch at the Cameron Corner Store. Cross the Dingo Fence, which is now the longest fence in the world at 5,531 kilometres, before continuing on to Tibooburra for our overnight stay.
The Granites Motel - Tibooburra

Please note that due to the remoteness of the area, our accommodation tonight will be in a variety of motel, cabins and cottages and some shared facilities will be necessary.

B, L, D

Day 7

Tibooburra – Thargomindah
Today we travel from New South Wales into the Queensland Channel Country and the remote outback Bulloo Shire where natural resources abound and oil and gas fields are well established. Pass Nockatunga Station, enjoying a picnic lunch enroute to Thargomindah. Gazetted as a town in 1874, Thargomindah was the first town in Australia and the third in the world to have street lighting powered by hydroelectricity generated from artesian bore water. This afternoon a guided town tour takes you to the Hydro Power Plant and Leahy House. Made from locally made mud brick, the house was built when the Deed of Grant was made to the Thargomindah Newspaper Company in 1885, which was owned by John and Patrick Leahy. The house was continuously lived in until 1995, when the Bulloo Shire Council purchased the building for restoration purposes.

Day 8

Thargomindah – St George

The Changing Ways permanent exhibition tells the local history of Cobb & Co and the stories of the families who worked for the company. Our journey then takes us to Tara for lunch before a visit to the Tara Historical Museum, which houses an eclectic collection ranging from a 1929 fire engine, to shearing memorabilia, Blue Moon picture theatre projection equipment and an authentic 1912 ‘Brauer’s’ slab hut. Continue on to Dalby for our overnight stay.
