Day 1

Home – MONA – Hobart
After our flight into Hobart, the historic town of Richmond will be the introduction to Tasmania, with time to purchase some lunch before visiting the newest Museum in Tasmania—MONA. The Museum of Old and New Art is a private collection you need to see for yourself. Later check into the hotel, only five minutes walk from Constitution Dock and the Hobart National Aquatic Centre.

Day 2

Mt Wellington, Female Factory, Cascade Brewery
The tour of the city this morning starts at sea level and will culminate at 1271m above it, on top of Mt Wellington. On the return journey experience a tour of the Cascade Female Factory. This was purpose built in 1828 and operated for the next 30 years, the intention being to remodel female convicts away from the temptation of society. Two centuries later and this site is World Heritage Listed and offers insight into the early days of Van Diemen’s Land. Close by is the Cascade Brewery, where we will enjoy lunch followed by a tour of the brewery, located on three acres of heritage Woodstock gardens. Next,
take an afternoon tour on the eastern side of the Derwent River, including the Bellerive Cricket Ground. Tonight enjoy the buffet at Wrest Point Casino.

Day 3

Bruny Island
From the Huon Valley we will take a 15 minute ferry ride to Bruny island, discovered by Abel Tasman in 1642 and later visited by Captains Cook, Cox, Bligh and d’Entrecasteaux. Visit the museum where much of this history is recorded. Take in the superb coastal scenery along Adventure Bay where white wallabies, echidnas and birds may be seen. Visit Cape Bruny for views from the lighthouse, the second oldest in Australia. After a unique day, return to Hobart.

Day 4

Shot Tower, Huon Valley, Apples, Cherries, Cheese and Boats
This morning we will make a stop at Joseph Moir’s Shot Tower. Built in 1870, at 157 feet tall, this was the highest shot tower constructed in Australia, and the last remaining worldwide. You can climb to the top if you’re game! Following the Derwent to a local cherry orchard, stop and pick some late cherries or better still, purchase cherry pie. The Grandvewe Sheep Cheese Farm and the Tassie Apple Shed will be delicious destinations. Rounding the day with a visit to a unique school which is still teaching the art of boat building.
