Enjoy a picnic lunch in the lovely Belmore Gardens in the centre of Goulburn before arriving in our nation's capital. Visit Cockington Green, a delightful and fascinating display of meticulously crafted miniature buildings set within beautifully landscaped gardens. Be sure to look for the hidden items throughout the garden displays. Late afternoon we'll settle into our accommodation for the next five nights.

Take a drive through Canberra on your way to Black Mountain Tower, offering a splendid 360 degree bird's eye view of the National Capital. On a tour of the Royal Australian Mint see where circulation coins, medals, medallions, seals and tokens are manufactured. This afternoon we'll visit Questacon, "where the future begins with a dream", and then the National Gallery of Australia, which houses more than 100,000 works of art and many world-class art exhibitions.

Day 3

This morning go behind the scenes at the Australian Institute of Sport which leads the way in the development of elite sport and sports science. Next, we visit the High Court of Australia for a guided tour of this 40 metre tall structure with its great hall and three courtrooms, followed by a picnic lunch amongst the flags at Reconciliation Park. This afternoon take a step back in time with a guided tour of Lanyon Homestead. Lying at the foot of the Brindabella Ranges, Lanyon Homestead is one of Australia's premier historic properties. Dating back to the 1850s, it has been beautifully restored and furnished.

Day 4

Our morning begins with a guided tour of the Historic All Saints Church which was built in the mid 1800s as the railway station at Rookwood Cemetery in Sydney, and painstakingly dismantled and transported stone by stone to Canberra where it was erected in 1958. View the stained glass War Memorial window dedicated to those of the Parish and district who gave their lives in the second World War. Continue on to the National Museum of Australia for a self guided tour before enjoying some free time to browse the city centre and purchase your own lunch. Take a guided tour of Parliament House - a symbol of Australian democracy, meeting place of the nation, and focal point of Canberra.

Day 5

Today we attend the National Ceremony to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day. On the 11th November 1918, at 11am the Guns of the Western Front fell silent and signalled the end of the First World War after years of continuous warfare. In the years that followed, this date attained special significance and remains so to this day. On this day we remember all those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. (Please note: umbrellas are not permitted at the ceremony. It is recommended that you take a hat and sunscreen as there is no shelter). Following the conclusion of the service the remainder of the day is yours to explore the Australian War Memorial, taking the opportunity to purchase your own lunch today at Poppy's Café at the Memorial. You may choose to stay until closing where a moving Last Post Ceremony is held in the Commonwealth Courtyard and shares the story behind one of the names on the Roll of Honour.

B, D

Day 6

Celebrating the spirit of Australian democracy and the power of your voice within it, the Museum of Democracy at Old Parliament House is our first stop for the day. Be inspired by amazing real life stories of ordinary people who have fought to shape today's society. After morning tea, we will travel back to Sydney and The Hunter, stopping for lunch along the way.
