Day 1
Sydney – Bellingen
Depart from Strathfield, Central Coast and the Hunter, before taking the Buckets Way through National Trust listed Stroud to Gloucester for lunch. Continue to Taree before arriving into the township of Bellingen. The motel is a beautiful retreat overlooking the valley and set on 16 acres. The restaurant features a log fire in the double sided fireplace made entirely of rocks from the Bellinger River. The magnificent ceiling beams of mahogany and red cedar are from the Dorrigo Plateau and Bellinger Valley and the hand-carved cedar scrolls, panelling, doors and sandstone bricks are from the old Parramatta Court House. Take time to settle in for the next four nights before enjoying dinner together.
Day 2
Dorrigo – Bellingen
Today enjoy a beautiful drive as we wend our way through cool mountain forests, close by waterfalls and sub-tropical rainforest with species such as coachwood, corkwood, hoop pine and sassafras. At the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre, enjoy the bird’s eye view from the canopy-top platform before continuing on to Bonville. This afternoon, ensure that you are wearing your bright colours to attract the butterflies at The Butterfly House where you will enjoy lunch and have the opportunity to be ‘kissed’ by these radiant creatures. Return to the historic township of Bellingen, where little has changed since the early days of settlement. Take time to stroll down the main street before returning to the motel for dinner.
Day 3
Merry Christmas
Following a leisurely breakfast enjoy some free time to call loved ones, take a stroll around the gardens or simply relax by the pool. Alternatively, you may choose to attend a Christmas Day church service in Bellingen. Your Coach Captain and Hostess will help with transfers. After a delicious Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, we take a tour along Waterfall Way, stopping at Dangar Falls, Griffiths Mountain Top Lookout and Ebor Falls before heading back to the motel for an informal light dinner.
Day 4
Bowraville – Macksville
Today we will travel to Bowraville and visit the Bowraville Folk Museum with its many thousands of interesting historical objects housed in multiple buildings and outdoor exhibition areas. View the displays at the Frank Partridge VC Military Museum before continuing on to Mary Boulton’s Pioneer Cottage at Macksville. The cottage is a charming replica of a rough-sawn timber home that is typical of those used by the early European settlers. Lunch today is in Macksville before a visit to Valley of the Mist for a guided tour and a sampling of some Australian bush tucker.
Day 5
Bellingan – South West Rocks – Sydney
After saying goodbye to our hosts, journey through the Milo country on our way to the old Penal Station of South West Rocks. Enjoy morning tea while taking in the views of this popular but not overly commercialised part of the coast. Enjoy lunch at the Nabiac Hotel before arriving back in the Hunter early afternoon and then on to Sydney.
