L, D

Day 2

Moree – Bourke
Following breakfast, your journey continues via Collarenebri, Walgett and on to Brewarrina which lies on the point of the Darling River system, where it is generally accepted that the Barwon River ends and the Darling River commences. Following lunch, browse the displays in the Settlers Museum and Information Centre before re-boarding the coach for an informative guided tour of this small but progressive township. Leaving Brewarrina behind our travels take us to the historic town of Bourke, once a busy river port on the Darling River, in outback New South Wales.

B, L, D

Day 3

Back O’ Bourke Exhibition Centre
We begin our day with a cruise along the mighty Darling River aboard the PV Jandra, a faithful reproduction of the original 1894 steam paddleboat that plied the river. Take time to
wander the Back O’ Bourke Exhibition Centre, a world class facility nestled in a spectacular natural setting amongst the river red gums on the banks of the Darling River. Following lunch, discover more about this fascinating inland town from a local guide as we explore the history found in the old buildings, cotton farms, orchards, vineyards and jojoba fields.

B, L, D

Day 4

Bourke – Broken Hill
Depart Bourke and, depending on weather conditions, travel the Bourke Wilcannia Road through Louth and Tilpa or alternatively, travel the Kidman Way to Cobar. Enjoy a picnic lunch as we make our way to Wilcannia which was once a key inland port in the days of paddle steamers. Continue on to the “Silver City” of Broken Hill for our overnight stay.

B, L, D

Day 5

Broken Hill – Peterborough
Today travel to Silverton, a town originally built by miners in search of fortune. Discover the rich heritage of the region with a visit to Horizon Gallery which includes a wide range of artwork including painting, ceramics, fabrics, glass, pottery and woodwork. Our journey continues across the border into South Australia, travelling via Yunta and on to Peterborough, enjoying a picnic lunch along the way. Visit the Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre for a guided tour and hear how this was once South Australia’s busiest regional railway hub. View the magnificently restored carriages filled with ornate polished wood and beautifully decorated dining cars and see Australia’s only operational triple gauge turntable. After an early dinner, we head back to the rail centre for the Sound and Light Show in a restored 1916 historic rail carriage.

B, L, D

Day 6

Peterborough – Flinders Ranges – Leigh Creek
Travel north through the southern Flinders Ranges, renowned for its rugged mountain ranges, spectacular gorges, sheltered creeks lined with river red gums and abundant wildlife. Visit Jeff Morgan’s Gallery to see the ‘Wilpena Panorama’ which is an ‘endless’ painting which can be viewed from the ground floor or from the staircase landing in a specifically designed circular building. After lunch at the Hawker Hotel, a classic century old Australian colonial pub, continue on to Leigh Creek where we will stay for two nights.

B, L, D

Day 7

Lake Eyre option – Ochre Pits – Lyndhurst
Today is sure to be a real highlight of this tour as you have the option to fly over Lake Eyre. Onboard the coach, we will travel to the spectacular Ochre Pits, a display of spectacular colours used by aboriginals in painting, and a very important site to their heritage. Visit Lyndhurst, an historic old railway town and the starting point for the Strzelecki Track before returning to Leigh Creek. Today, there will be time to purchase your own lunch in Leigh Creek.

Option – 2 hour scenic flight (additional cost)
Departing Leigh Creek, fly over Marree, Lake Eyre South, Bet Bay, Madigan Gulf, Lake Eyre North, Jackboot Bay, Willouran Ranges and Farina before returning to Leigh Creek.
(Prices on optional activities will be finalised and advised in writing prior to final payment due date. All option bookings will be taken at this time. We recommend that all options are booked and paid for as soon as possible after this time as they will be subject to availability and minimum numbers being met.)

B, D

Day 8

Leigh Creek – Wadlata – Port Pirie
Today we travel south stopping for lunch at Port Augusta, on the tip of the Spencer Gulf. Also known as the ‘Crossroads of Australia’, the major inland highways from Western Australia, Northern Territory, New South Wales and Victoria converge here. Visit the Wadlata Outback Centre, an award-winning complex that epitomises the early days in the remote areas of Australia. The multi-sensory interactive displays take you through the ‘Tunnel of Time’ showing how life has evolved. Wadlata is a well kept secret and will be a real surprise. Continue on to Port Pirie for our overnight stay.

B, L, D

Day 9

Port Pirie – Adelaide – Brisbane
After breakfast this morning, travel through some of South Australia’s rich pastoral areas as we journey to Adelaide. Enjoy lunch in Adelaide’s seaside district of Glenelg before boarding your flight back to Brisbane where our staff will have your transfers arranged.
